Street Associations are spreading! The initiative started in Harborne, Birmingham, but others are now being launched in other parts of the city, with interest coming from further afield. We believe this could be a model for how any street, anywhere in the UK, gets together and stays together.
This is about restoring true community. Most people accept that community is really valuable but that, in so many streets, it is more of an idea than a reality. Street Associations bring community back in a way that is so simple that people are beginning to say, “This is such a good idea, I’m amazed it’s not everywhere!”
There is a simple way of transforming your street, so that within months everyone knows everyone, people have fun together, do things together, help one-another, belong – and feel like they belong.
We can do this! It is within our grasp. If you’d like to talk to us about creating a Street Association in your street, we’d love to hear from you. Take a look at this website, find out more about how a Street Association works and by all means let’s chat about what could be done in your street.
Street Associations are not just about transforming the atmosphere and restoring community on one street alone – they are also about potentially doing this for a whole town or city, area by area, through a strategic initiative involving schools, doctors, the local council, churches – community leaders of all kinds – coming together and getting something going that can make a real and growing difference.
This website tells you ‘how’. It answers key questions about Street Associations. It also provides the infrastructure for a new area’s area’s strategic initiative, offering a hub where Street Associations can be registered, practical guides can be downloaded, ideas shared and easy communication between participants facilitated.
