The first Street Association to be launched, Yew Croft Avenue in Harborne, Birmingham, celebrated its 10th anniversary on 1st August 2021. A garden party was held, with many families from the street coming through. Comments from guests, reflecting on the difference the Street Association has made, included the following:
“It makes a lot of difference, it’s great because I’m younger and I get to socialise with people of all ages on the street”.
(About to move away) “If I could I would lift my brand new house straight into this community – we’ve had such a good time”.
“I think in the height of Covid in particular, the community really rallied around those who weren’t able to get out”.
“My husband and I had lived here for 30 years before the Street Association was formed and we knew our immediate neighbours and one person across the road. Once we became part of the Street Association we made friends with many others and suddenly we felt part of something”.
“For us the Street Association has been fantastic. We get to meet everyone. We are each other’s family really, part of an extended family. It has been amazing, literally”.
“We’ve had loads of events. We’ve done the Bake Off – our kids really enjoy the Bake Off. We’ve had Christmas events and garden parties. It has really made living in this road an enjoyable and supportive place to be”.
